We’re a small family business, with most of us living nearby in the village of Arnside. We are so pleased that we’re able to bring our experience to the Promenade, creating a new venue that we hope all our visitors will be proud of.

Having opened their first pub when they were 19 years old (not putting a date on that!), Matt and Sarah moved around the UK, building their experience in different pubs and bars, and winning a few national awards as they went. Finally, after settling in Cumbria, they co-founded Lancaster Brewery, with pubs in Ulverston, Barrow-in-Furness, and of course Lancaster.

After retiring from the Brewery, Matt along with his brother Steve and sister Nicola, founded JJ Crossfield’s café & wine bar in Arnside. Steve recently moved to the village after building his career in the South of England, while Nicola still lives in Hertfordshire (she’ll give in and move up here eventually!) where she teaches at a school for children with disabilities.
